Long Distance

“Missing someone gets easier everyday because even though you are one day further from the last time you saw them, you are one day closer to the next time you will.”

I’ve had the opportunity to take part in a long distance relationship ever since the end of my freshmen year. I was only 14 at the time when I made this transition to move out to Philadelphia. All my family and friends told me it wasn’t worth going through all the stress and depression but for some reason, we both didn’t want to lose each other at all. Unknown.jpeg

Growing up playing soccer, David Beckham has always been an inspiration to me. I had always loved his style of play and his attitude on and off the field and strived to be like him. I could watch his highlights for hours just watching how clever he is with the soccer ball.

Right when I thought I knew everything about him, I found something on the internet. I clicked on the link, and found out about David Beckham’s love life. Not only could I relate with him with soccer, I found out that we have similar love lives. When David Beckham was recruited by LA Galaxy in 2007, his wife Victoria decided to split her time between Los Angeles and London. She said her happiness to be in a long-distance relationship might explain “why we’re not bored with each other after 11 years”. `beckhams_2310319k.jpg

I have now been dating my girlfriend for 4 years and 2 of them have been long distance. It’s very difficult when you can’t see the girl you love every single day and physically hold her. But I realized that the longer apart we are from each other, the more special the time we have together is. We make every second we are with each other unforgettable and worthwhile.

But in the mean time we are very thankful for our technology to help keep us connected everyday. We text every second, and FaceTime every night. There isn’t a night that we miss, because each call means something.IMG_0372-2.JPG

“We are the perfect couple, we’re just not in the perfect situation.

Although we can’t control the situation we are in, we try our best to cope with it and make the most out of it. Being able to come home to such an amazing girl is perfect, and the minute I leave her, I have the next time to come home to look forward to. It’s not easy, but just like David Beckham and his wife, I know Lara and I can do it too.

Future Wife

It is 2013 and I am only 13 years old.

Today is the last game of the football season and we just won the title of our league. As 1,000 students are all squished up in one small area of the bleachers, one girl catches my attention. The way she doesn’t care about what anyone thinks and the way she is smiling I just can’t resist. As all my friends see me staring, they all dare me to go talk to her. I don’t have as much confidence and I am kinda awkward with girls. I can’t back down from a dare, though. I see her walk out, and I approach her. I begin to introduce myself, and she introduces herself, and right from there I know she is the one. I know we have a connection from the minute she speaks and I hope she feels the same. Before I leave and walk back to my friends, I quickly ask for her number, and she says, “yes, of course.”

I ask her to go on a date with me to the movies to see The Impossible. I know that I have to make the first move. I put my arm up and slowly place it around her shoulder. She leans on me and cuddle up very close. So many emotions are going through my head with this beautiful girl right next to me. Once the movie ends, my mom picks us up and drops Lara off at her house. I text her that night asking, “Will you be my girlfriend?” She replies, “I thought you’d never ask.”

It is now 2014, and I am a freshman at Grand Blanc High School.

We are now dating for a year, and I want to do something special for our one year anniversary. After school, we walk to Buffalo Wild Wings. We are having such a good time and I find out more things about her and why she is so perfect. A year goes by and our relationship grows even more. We are always telling each other that we will be with together forever and ever and I always believe it, nothing can separate us.IMG_3855.JPG

Finally, the year comes to an end and it is summer time. She knows that I am moving to Philadelphia in August to play for the Philadelphia Union, but she doesn’t want to end our relationship. I tell her every day how much I love her and how much I’m going to miss her when I leave but she doesn’t want to let go of me. After a great month and a half with her, it is time to go. The transition to leave her and my family is very difficult but she knows it is what I want and a great opportunity for me. When we get to the airport, she comes up to me and hugs me tight and says, “We can do this, baby,” then gives me a kiss goodbye.

It is 2017, and I feel the same way for her as I did back in 2013. We now have been dating for 4 years and 2 of them have been in long distance. Although we rarely see each other, it makes the times that we do very special. We know that nothing can stop us no matter how far out we are from each other.

I hope this girl becomes my wife, I’m happy to say, I’m in love.

Hard Work Pays Off

It has been over a year since I’ve been invited to the last National camp. This was a huge struggle that I went through mentally. Seeing all my other teammates getting invited while I am here working my butt off and getting no reward made me realize how much harder i had to work. I used this obstacle to only work harder. Not getting invited, made me work harder and harder each and everyday.

I made the sacrifice to leave my family and friends back in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and move out to Philadelphia to play soccer. I lost many friends in this transition, but I did it because of my love for the game and my aspiration to go pro. I stayed patient and kept working with everyone back home supporting me.

This year, I’ve had the opportunity to be moved up to the u18 academy team while Unknown-1being only 16. After earning a starting position and performing well, they moved me up with the USL team. I knew that I was improving everyday and putting in the work that was needed.

After practice one day, my coach came up to me and said, “You did it, you’ve been invited to the u17 USA national team camp.” Words couldn’t describe the emotions that went through my head. He knew how bad I wanted to go and how much it meant to me. He told me that I deserved it a spot on the team to represent the club.

In that week I was able to prove what kind of player I was and why I deserved to be there. Everyday I would wake up, eat, train, eat, rest, eat, and finally sleep. That was my schedule everyday from Friday February 24th, till Tuesday March 2nd. The coaches gave us an off day on the Wednesday and took us to the beach for a regeneration session — stretches, yoga, running, foam-rolling — to help us feel fresh for the next training.

Once the camp ended, I was proud of myself and what I had accomplished throughout the week. Nervous and shaky, I started the week by stepping onto a field with all the best players in America, but I ended it with confidence and the thought: “I know I belong here.”

This is only the beginning.

Coloring Book

A lot has changed

Artist: Chance The Rapper

Released: May 13, 2016

A lot has changed

After hearing Chance’s last album, I can say, Chance isn’t like any other rapper. His album cover changes with a connection to one another. Each cover photo is a representation of his face looking in a certain direction. 10 Day was an album that was released on April 3, 2012. In this picture he is looking up, people say he just finished high school and is looking up to the rap world while he is still young. Then, in April 30, 2013 Acid Rap was released but this time he is looking into the picture, relating to him looking into the rap world. He looks confused and slightly more mature with trees and a cabin behind him, as people say it’s best to drop acid near the nature. Finally, May 13, 2016 arrived and Chance has released Coloring Book. He has a smile on his face this time. He has come so far and has reached the top. “Maybe the place he was looking up to on the cover of 10Day is where he finally reached on Chance 3,” says Yoh.

The album seems to be a mix between gospel and rap. He has many different artist featuring in his songs to make every song different and unique, and that is what I love with this album. Every song has a different meaning and tells a story. Not only that, but Chance includes many top artists such as Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Lil Yatchy, etc. He even includes the Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir.

Chance starts his album with the song, “All we got.” This song features Kanye West and Chicago Children’s Choir. He says, “I get my Word from the sermon/I do not talk to the serpent/That’s a holistic discernment,” which is from the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Chance is very faithful and follows Gods path.

Knowing the fact that I love both Gospel and rap, this album was perfect. It helped bring the connection I  have for both God and music and bring them together.  He is a very good role model to many teen boys. As many people go through struggles in their life, Chance is a man that has overcame them. He now knows what is important in life and cares about everyone. He’s not so much in the music industry for the money as many other artists like to show it off, Chance recently released a Christmas album for free just for the heck of it. Finally, Chance is very strict about record labels. In the song, “No Problem,” he explains how he feels about them. He wants complete control of his music no matter what, he says, “I make what I wanna make, when I wanna make it, with who I wanna make it with. And, in the end, I still own everything that I create. And just the understanding of giving up that piece of the pie to anybody, whether they’re a huge label, or a indie label, or it’s just a distribution deal or it’s just a publishing deal, like giving up that piece is difficult for me.” Chance is a artist I look up to.
